How do individuals know what type of long-term care they may need?
Individuals or families should start out by communicating with the family as a whole and the individual’s physician and then explore assisted living communities and nursing homes in the area. The next step would be to talk with the professionals who manage these communities. If individuals are able to maintain their independence but need support with daily tasks, assisted living may be the right fit. Learn about the difference between independent and assisted living.[Back to Top]
What are the differences between the care provided in assisted living communities and nursing homes?
Each setting offers a different level of care. Nursing homes provide 24-hour nursing care for those with complex medical needs who require round-the-clock care. Assisted living communities provide 24-hour supported living and health-related services, allowing an individual enhanced choices and greater independence. [Back to Top]
Why is the need for assisted living growing?
Recent estimates show that in the United States, more than 12 million people of all ages require some help with long-term care needs and decision-making. This number is increasing rapidly in our senior population as this demographic continues to grow and as medical technology extends lives. [Back to Top]
When should an individual start planning for long-term care needs?
People should start planning early for potential long-term care needs. This planning can be done through seeking advice regarding available services before the need arises. Check out more tips on how to get started on finding the right senior living solution.
Most importantly, people should become aware of assisted living communities and nursing homes within their community. Getting to know the people on staff and available services offered well in advance of need will help make the decision process and transition much easier for both the prospective resident and family. We also recommend touring facilities before you need them. Sign up for a tour of GSL Strongsville or any of our assisted or independent living communities today. [Back to Top]
